How long does it take to fix a power outage in my house?

The time to fix a house power outage depends on whether the problem is with the utility supply or a fault in your home’s electrical system. Most full-home outages trace back to the utility, while partial outages often point to a tripped main, failing breaker, or panel issue. An electrician can usually determine in a few checks whether the fault is upstream at the meter or inside a circuit. We handle these calls across the Herndon area and can coordinate with the utility when the issue is on their side. Absolute Electric offers 24/7 emergency service for Absolute Family Plan members; emergency rates apply.

Call the utility first if: neighbors are out too, the service line is damaged, or the meter looks compromised. Call an electrician if: only part of the home is out, breakers won’t reset, or you smell burning/see sparking. Turn off the main breaker if you notice heat, smoke, or arcing at the panel.
